inconsiderate morons getting tickets
Finally!
Tampa Police had a motorcycle cop at the corner of Kennedy and Morgan this morning, writing tickets to the inconsiderate morons traveling westbound on Kennedy who routinely block the intersection by trying to stretch the light. Inconsiderate, in that they don’t seem to care that they’re inconveniencing the people on Morgan. Morons, in that they don’t seem to understand that whether they’re sitting in the middle of an intersection or at the light a few feet behind them, they’re still sitting at the end of a long line of cars and not getting where they’re going any faster. This is not uncommon anywhere you go, but for some reason it’s a standard occurrence at this particular intersection. It’s like a Bermuda Triangle where common sense and courtesy disappear for no apparent reason. At least TPD is doing something about it today.

I don’t understand what this is about.
Cars who have a green light but are making a left turn (without a left turn arrow light) are in the intersection, waiting for traffic to clear so they can make a turn.
As long as it’s just one vehicle, where is the problem again?
I think TPD should start worrying about more important things than about people trying to make a left turn.

I thought it was more of a description of gridlock than people making left turns. First one is general asshattery, the second only delays things by a few seconds and seems fine.

Drove through this today. What a cluster!

“Cars who have a green light but are making a left turn (without a left turn arrow light) are in the intersection, waiting for traffic to clear so they can make a turn.”
I think he means the line of cars on Morgan is backed up blocking the traffic on Kennedy and they turn anyway, blocking the traffic even more so.
I think.

It’s called “blocking the box”. If you can’t make it all the way across an intersection, you wait. If you don’t and the light changes then you prevent the cars crossing the other way from getting through the intersection. Way back when in NYC they did a commercial campaign, then they just started planting a foot cop to run out and slap a generic ticket on your windshield. It worked.

90% of the inconsiderate and rude driving that happens in Tampa every day wouldn’t be happening now if cops had started ticketing it five or ten years ago. People will break the rules and inconsiderately block others if they can get away with it. Hooray to the cops, who took years to figure out that cars sitting still in the middle of an intersection are sitting ducks for tickets. Darwinism may work on our roadways too!
