white christmas indeed
December 24, 1906 – The manager of the Tampa Bay Hotel (in what is now the University of Tampa) holds a large Christmas party for “all the white employees” of the hotel. The house orchestra played “rollicking” two-steps and waltzes, and party-goers enjoyed all manner of refreshments. The party ended with everyone attending midnight mass. All hotel employees (presumably including the African-American employees) were given Christmas presents the following day by Mrs. Lauber, the hotel manager’s wife.
