voting machines questioned
December 20, 1936 – The Tampa Morning Tribune reports that Tampa’s City Attorney was asked to review two potentially conflicting election laws in order to decide the legality of using voting machines for an upcoming election. The machines would be used for the first time when voters decide the February 23 contest for Ybor City’s representative on Tampa’s board of alderman (City Council) in an attempt to clean up the city’s terrible reputation for crooked elections.
