December 7, 1911 – The Tampa Morning Tribune reports that the effort to create Pinellas County from Hillsborough County has been ruled constitutional by the State Supreme Court. This was one of many contests between interests in “western” Hillsborough County and those of Tampa-based anti-separation advocates. Pinellas County officially became its own entity in 1912.
