Tribune Community Columnist Natalie Preston wrote a great, simple to-the-point article as to what’s wrong with downtown Tampa.

It’s a sad day when someone can convincingly argue that Lansing, Michigan is cooler than Tampa. I fled Michigan and came here in ‘92, before Ybor turned into an alcohol mall, before north Tampa bled into Pasco, before the “Tampa Sucks” cd was released. 13 years later, I’m ready to split. My neighborhood is being systematically destroyed by developers. My local elected representatives range from ineffectual to psychotic. My favorite restaurants are almost all gone. You can’t find a place to hear live jazz, and WUSF tapes their overnights now. Pedestrians are considered a nuisance, sidewalks are a detriment. Artists Unlimited is the only reason I go to Channelside anymore.

In Tampa, history is meant to be erased, apparently so we can be doomed to repeat it.

I see no reason (or way) to defend any of that.

I came to Tampa from PA to do a little aspalt sealing work a couple winters ago. Screw that, never again! What a bad place. Crackheads tried to carjack me a couple of times. Had a bunch of equiptment stolen. I hate that place. They can take their sunny skies, palm trees and warm weather and stick it straight up their asses. Pittsburgh is a much nicer (and SAFER) city. Not to mention you don’t have to jump through hoops to make an honest living in the burgh. Florida contractor restrictions suck ass. I was working illegally the whole time because I was not a permanant resident and did not possess a state contractor’s license. I love how every time a hurricane hits, you people bitch about getting your roofs replaced and getting ripped off by LOCAL CONTRACTORS who charge you thousands for a temporary blue tarp! And then you wonder why us northern contractors refuse to come down there and risk our freedom and saftey to work for you. Kiss my ass Florida and suck my balls Tampa!
